Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At 27 years old when he began his studies, he was accepted into the National Theatre School of Denmark. He graduated in 1994. Apart from his performance in The Killing's drama series which he was a part of, he also appeared on Borgen III, a Danish drama series. He played the role of Charles Augustus Magnussen, a blackmailer, during an episode on BBC Drama Sherlock. In the American television series House of Cards, he played the role of the president of Russia. In 2018, he won an International Emmy Award for his character as the president of Russia in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. It was shown in the UK in 2019. According to Mikkelsen's story that he learned English from his brother through watching Monty Python recordings and watching the comedy sketches.
